IRAM is a leading international institute for millimeter wave astronomy, supported by the MPG (Max-Planck Gesellschaft, Germany), CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France), and IGN (Instituto Geográfico Nacional, Spain). IRAM operates two major observatories, the NOEMA array located in the French Alps and the Pico Veleta 30-m antenna in southern Spain, and runs an ambitious instrumentation development program. More information on the institute can be found athttp://www.iram-institute.org.
The IRAM receiver group is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the heterodyne receivers installed on the NOEMA and Pico Veleta antennas. It is also providing receiving systems for other observatories world-wide. The group is composed of more than 15 highly experienced technicians and engineers and works in close collaboration with other groups in the institute, in particular the superconductive devices laboratory and the mechanical workshop. The IRAM receiver group has an established expertise in millimeter receivers technologies, including SIS mixers, microwave optics, cryostat assembling, control electronics, IF processing, or local oscillators, and IRAM intends to maintain and further develop its leadership in these fields. The laboratories in Grenoble provide complete facilities, including cryostat test sets, antenna range, VNA, etc. The current main project is the production of the new, state-of-the-art receivers for the NOEMA array, but the group is also pursuing R&D to prepare for next generation receivers, in particular multi-pixel instruments.
The successful candidate is expected to take over the scientific and administrative leadership of the group, which includes the organisation and supervision of the receivers design and construction; the maintenance and performance monitoring of the on-site receivers; an active role in proposing improvements and new projects; and the development of internal and external collaborations.
Candidates should hold a PhD in Physics or Engineering and have experience in (sub-)millimeter receiver technologies and in the managing of technical development projects. The position is initially limited to 5 years with the possibility to convert it into a permanent position. Salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
Candidates should send, quoting reference VN 2015/01, a detailed CV and covering letter explaining their interest, together with the names of at least two professional references to Mrs Brigitte Indigo, personal department (indigo@iram.fr). The review of the applications will start on May 15th and will continue until the position is filled. Questions should be directed to the IRAM deputy director (gueth<στο>iram.fr).
