Background / General description

IFC's Treasury Risk Management Unit (CRMTR), which sits within the Corporate and Portfolio Risk Management (CRM) department, is responsible for measuring, managing and monitoring market, credit and liquidity risks in IFC's portfolio. The unit is conducting a search for a Risk Officer to join an international dynamic team in support of deepening the market risk analysis of IFC's Treasury, expanding the market risk analysis to different parts of IFC's balance sheet, and providing additional reporting on market risk to senior management on current market risk trends. Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year term appointment.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Play a senior role in maintaining close contact and liaison with internal Treasury clients in discussing and explaining portfolio and individual security investment risk.
  • Partner with Treasury for new capital market development initiatives in frontier markets and other solutions for IFC clients.
  • Represent CRMTR with internal Treasury clients for new initiatives, policy issues, counterparty eligibility, and associated limits.
  • Participate in ongoing due diligence of IFC's new and existing Treasury investments in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
  • Monitor relevant markets, security-specific risks and securities markets developments. In this regard the candidate is expected to have a deep knowledge of fixed income markets as well as possess strong judgment of markets relative to theoretical models.
  • Coordinate with IFC HQ for long-term initiatives and strategic changes in risk management.
  • Participate in daily risk measurement activities and regular reporting obligations.
  • Candidate will take technical and complex issues and explain them in simple and straightforward terms in communicating with internal clients and senior management.
  • Mentor, guide, and train junior team members.

Selection Criteria

  • Advanced degree, preferably in finance, mathematics or engineering and minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in a specialized field such as portfolio management, risk management, financial modeling and/or quantitative research.
  • Broad knowledge of IFC Treasury operations (liquid assets, funding, client solutions, quantitative analysis) and ability to form strong working relationships with clients.
  • Strong business decision making ability and ability to independently implement established policies and procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of credit and market risk measurement, including value at risk, stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Excellent understanding of structured products including ABS, CMBS and RMBS markets, as well as, prior in-depth and disciplined analytical experience of fixed income instruments are required.
  • Outstanding knowledge and experience of financial markets, financial instruments (in cash and derivatives) as well as of the macroeconomics of large currency zones, USD, JPY, EUR, and possibly of smaller ones GBP, AUD and others are desirable.
  • Strong analytical ability and demonstrated professional leadership skill, as well as a strong interest and ability to undertake initiatives.
  • Strong team player with ability to collaborate with colleagues within and across departments.
  • Previous work experience in either asset management related activities, such as portfolio management and securities trading, or previous work experience in a large financial organization in a role of front office risk manager or a market risk strategist are strong pluses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present technical issues in simple and straightforward terms.
