Job Details & Key Attributes

General objective - Responsabilities:

  • Project leader inorganic-organic surface modification.

Activities - Functional relations:

  • Using your material science and/or chemistry background, you will be developing new surface treatments and coatings for (galvanized) steel sheet, improving e.g. the corrosion resistance, appearance, abrasion resistance, by using nano-, micro- or macro technologies.
  • You have strong interest in product as well as production process development and high level analytical skills.
  • You recognize new trends in your field of research and you identify needs for product and process development.
  • You will be responsible for building up a long term relationship with production sites and commercial teams all over Europe, giving day-to-day support for existing products and implementing new products.
  • You carry out short-term product development as well as basic research to support the industrial research projects.
  • You are in charge of steering complex projects and bridging several disciplines in order to contribute to the development of new or enhanced surface modification applications.
  • You will build up relationships with suppliers and new technology providers
  • For product development you will work in close cooperation with the product development pilot and report to the department and portfolio manager
  • Depending on the stage gate of the different projects you will work closely together with production and commercial teams all over Europe.

Minimum Applicant Attribute

  • Education/Qualification: Master
  • Subject:Chemistry/material science 
  • Language: Proficiency Level
  • English: Intermediate

Other Minimum Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in surface science and/or coatings (Phd or R&D in general)
  • You have a mature personality with sufficient independence, dedicated to "research on industrial projects".
  • You are meticulous in your work, showing scientific pride and integrity.
  • You have excellent communication skills, dealing with team members, management, customers, etc.

  • Specific experience is welcomed (but not restricting) in one or more of the following areas: corrosion science, surface analytics, coating formulation, polymer chemistry, nano coatings/particles, solid/gas interactions, fluid dynamics modelling
