Control Command/Automation Engineer for Offshore Wind Turbine

Purpose of the Job

  • The position is part of the Offshore Wind Turbine Product Engineering and R&D department.
  • The mission of the job is to maintain and improve the automation software algorithms of Alstom offshore wind turbines.
  • The supervisory software interacts with the sensors, intelligent systems and actuators of the wind turbine. According to the status of the sensors and intelligent systems it executes the corresponding logic in order to maintain the turbine within the operating conditions.
  • The main drivers for modifications are non-conformities and new features to be implemented within the targets of quality, availability and on-time delivery.
  • The position is the main interface with Project team, Commissioning and maintenance regarding his scope of responsibility (ability to work at site).

Responsibilities

Duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Analysis and resolution of operational problems (non-conformance) in the turbine logic software as reported by the customers.
  • Definition, implementation and integration of new software functionalities for both existing and new wind turbine models.
  • Verification of functionalities.
  • On-site validation of turbine software packages.
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance and commissioning teams.
  • Technical team contribution.
  • Interface to project execution for all Wind Offshore project.
  • Develop and manage relevant solutions and associated documents adapted to local market needs and/or specific customer requirements.
  • Support to certification processes for components under his/her responsibility.
  • Technical assistance to business excellence, Installation, Commissioning and O&M departments.

Responsibilities EHS

  • To follow and enforce within its area of EHS management policy.
  • Participation with members in their area of responsibility, in making suggestions for improvements in order to avoid accidents.
  • Introduction of Alstom Wind EHS requirements into electrical documentation and verification processes/instructions.
  • Comply with EHS policy.
  • Participation in the development of courses and proposals for improvement to avoid incidents and accidents.
  • Carry out work according to the rules and procedures, avoiding any acts or omissions at work that might pose a danger or risk to its integrity or the people around them.
  • Wear personal protective equipment required for visiting assembly plants or wind turbines, checking that they are in perfect condition and ensuring the proper condition of the goods.
  • Take care of work equipment: machines, tools, facilities, ... they handle, ensuring the proper state, keeping in order and cleanliness their workplace.
  • Cooperate in combating any emergency that arises.
  • Immediately report failures, deficiencies, or any situation detected and that may pose a risk to people and anything that might involve some uncontrolled risk.
  • Report any accident or incident is detected, helping as needed in the subsequent investigation of it.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Engineering degree/university Degree in electrical, electronic, automation, informatics or physics.
  • Master degree in specific software technology areas is a plus.

Knowledge/Experience 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in automated machines and processes (composed of electrical, mechanic and hydraulic systems using programmable controllers).
  • Verification and validation of concepts and processes.
  • Knowledge of Software based machine automation.
  • Programming language c/c++ (highly valuated).
  • Knowledge of MS Office.
  • High Level of English. French/Spanish are a plus.

Optional:

  • Experience in wind turbine automation.
  • Model bases development.
  • Experience in Wind turbine component and/or offshore structures and installations are a plus.
