Short Term Asset Optimization coordinator

For our team in Amsterdam we are recruiting a Short Term Asset Optimisation coordinator (initially for 6 months).

The position of Short Term Asset Optimisation (STO) coordinator is in the middle of this transition.

The STO Flex NL team optimizes the current NL conventional/flexible asset portfolio and is facing the challenging market situation.

Our team is preparing for an integration with other production types like big scale wind energy. We are working closely with the asset (technical responsible) to optimize margin in the different short term markets, like selling MWh’s but with increasing importance selling its flexibility to Ancillary Service markets and portfolio balancing.

As STO coordinator you will be working together with similar STO Flex team in Germany and Sweden, where learning from each other’s expertise and best practices is encouraged.

Decision making skills are an important asset to cope with high degree of uncertainty / possibilities.

The STO Flex NL team is a team of 5 professionals, who work 7 days a week (office hours), because energy never stops.

We are looking for a replacement for a colleague who is on maternity leave and probably will be moving back to her homeland. This means we now have a position for 6 months with a good chance of continuation after those 6 months.

Main tasks and responsibilities 

 

  • Responsible for short term (day ahead to 5 weeks ahead) production planning/optimization for Dutch power assets.
  • On a daily basis responsible to create value by optimizing the power and heat generating asset portfolio in a smarter way than ”standard” (optimize ancillary services, heat optimization, unit commitment decisions, opportunities in intraday market)
  • Investigate, report and initiate, in cooperation with trading, commercial opportunities for additional value creation.
  • Responsible for short term coordination of planning unavailability of power plants in relation to the market value.
  • Initiate / participate in projects, process improvements, development of optimization software/modelling and changes due to changing market circumstances / changes in portfolio

Requirements

 

  • Technical- or economics bachelor degree
  • Minimal 1 years of working experience in the energy industry
  • Good knowledge of power plants processes
  • Knowledge of power plant economical optimization and mathematical optimization
  • Knowledge of NL system services and their markets
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong analytical competence and structural thinking
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Good communication skills and service-oriented
  • Stress-resistant, trustworthy
  • Initiative and commitment, analytical behaviour and judgment

The Department

Asset Optimisation and Trading (AOT) is the Business Division where all asset optimisation and trading activities are centralised for the Vattenfall Group. We are located in multiple sites across Europe with almost 700 professionals working from Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Poland. We trade the full range of energy commodities such as electricity, gas, oil, coal, freight, biomass and emissions and take responsibility for a diversified sourcing of power, fuels and carbon credits. We optimise and hedge Vattenfall’s generation assets in order to manage risk efficiently and optimise the portfolio value.
