Based in the Rolls-Royce UTC in Power Conversion Systems at the University of Manchester, you will undertake research into power electronic conversion techniques for future aircraft at power levels up to 100 kW. New materials, devices and topologies will be used to devise and demonstrate light-weight and highly efficient solutions.

You will conduct individual and collaborative research in the area of power electronics, including developing and maintaining project plans, and general time management. You will write up research work for publication, and deal with routine communication using a range of media.

You will have practical research experience of power electronic circuits and systems, motor drives, or electrical energy storage systems. You will also have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in a relevant discipline (or equivalent industrial experience). It is desirable if you have a knowledge of aircraft electrical systems.
