PhD Positions in Molecular Pharmaceutical Science, Moltag, Austria (2015-2016)

A consortium of four Austrian Research facilities (University of Vienna, Medical University of Vienna, Vienna University of Technology and the Institute for Science and Technology Austria at Klosterneuburg) announces its next call for application for several PhD positions in the field of Molecular Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Our vision is to understand the mechanisms by which ion channels, ionotropic receptors and neurotransmitter transporters are modulated by small molecules (drugs), natural products and their derivatives.

The PhD/doctoral program comprises the following projects:
- Predicting drug-transporter interaction
- The molecular basis of GABAA selectivity
- Subtype specific targeting of GABAA receptors
- Probing the role of voltage sensors in calcium channel modulation by agonists and inhibitors
- GABA receptor modulation via the valerenic acid binding pocket
- All optical evaluation of ion channel pharmacology
- Modification of natural product structures by catalytic C-H activation
- Synthesis of novel ring structures of GABAA receptor ligands with functional selectivity for sleep promoting receptors
- Enantioselective synthesis of configurationally stabilized Methcathinones for the investigation of monoamine transporters
- Investigation of the molecular transport mechanism of monoamine transporters by application of new psychoactive substances
- Structural investigations of K+ ion channel gating and drug interactions
- Human brain organoids (mini brains) as epilepsy models

MolTag is designed for exceptionally talented and motivated graduate students. It offers a unique and competitive interdisciplinary doctoral program with a commensurate pay package, including health insurance and assistance in relocating to Vienna.
