The Position

As Senior Commissioning Manager you will be working in the Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q) department which is a center of competency within Roche Global Engineering. The C&Q department ensures that all major capital projects are adequately staffed for C&Q activities for reliable delivery of commissioned and qualified facilities and systems. The C&Q department provides training, oversight and continuous coaching to qualification managers, mechanical and process commissioning managers throughout the project lifecycle. In addition the C&Q department reviews and assesses the quality and availability of commissioning and risk-based qualification deliverables and compliance to Roche Pharma Quality System as well as the Roche Engineering Manual. As Senior Commissioning Manager you lead, support and/or advise commissioning activities related to manufacturing and storage facilities and systems, laboratory buildings and equipment, utilities generating and distributing facilities and systems, generally in conjunction with CAPEX projects (capital expenditure projects). You also contribute to Right First Time delivery of those facilities and systems. You advice, train and support commissioning managers who lead respective activities. You take on hands-on project assignments as commissioning manager globally. You also ensure that commissioning of manufacturing systems is executed in CAPEX projects as required in engineering business processes.

Your responsibilities:

  • Commissioning oversight (Proactive assessments of commissioning aspects in CAPEX project activities, identification of commissioning issues in CAPEX projects in cooperation with Project Managers and Engineers, analysis and mutual development of mitigation measures);
  • Commissioning manager in CAPEX projects (Directs the planning, organization, and coordination of commissioning activities of manufacturing and storage facilities and systems, laboratory buildings and equipment, utilities and infrastructure. Leading and coordination of commissioning teams. Working in cooperation with the Project Manager, Qualification Manager, User, Manufacturing Science &Technology, Technical Services, Process group, Site Engineering);
  • Non CAPEX project related responsibilities (Participation in departmental and cross functional initiatives and business process improvements. Contributes to, or leads the development of procedures, guidelines and other documents related to Commissioning as needed or participation in respective teams).

You have a Master Degree in Engineering (Process, Pharmaceutical, Biochemical or equivalent), in pharmaceutical manufacturing and technology or in natural sciences with long time experience in pharmaceutical industries. You have in depth pharmaceutical knowledge and strong experience in GMP and GEP. You have gained front line experience in commissioning of pharmaceutical, chemical or biotech manufacturing facilities and systems. Additionally you have Project Management experience and reputation for mid- and large-sized investment projects as well as professional knowledge of design and commissioning of pharmaceutical facilities. Additional qualifications:

  • More than 7 years of experience in project engineering and project management;
  • Strong leader, motivating team player, drives results, excellent communication skills as well as excellent collaboration and influencing skills;
  • Readiness and flexibility to travel/Readiness for global long term assignments;
  • Experience in international environments is strongly requested;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, German is highly beneficial, further languages are beneficial.
