Global Leader, Integration Excellence

Function overview

The Integration Excellence function is responsible for managing the integration platforms and associated capabilities that support the AstraZeneca application estate, ensuring effective systems and service integration of new solutions into that estate. Integration Excellence covers the domains of Application Integration (A2A and B2B), Data Integration, Data Management and Data Exploitation. The function will provide world class capability and use standard methodologies to ensure applications and data are integrated into the AZ landscape in an effective manner. The function will help formulate and underpin the Information Integration Strategy in conjunction with Customer Facing and Technology Services teams.

The function and organization is truly global in scope and scale, with resources in US, UK, Sweden and India.

Key accountabilities

  • The Integration Excellence Director is accountable for both the service and systems integration stages of the application life cycle, ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction is provided.
  • Develop the strategy for Application Integration, Data Integration and Data Management and the underlying capabilities that AZ will need in the future
  • Develop and execute transformation programs to modernize and dramatically simplify our interface landscape.
  • Develop, socialize and own a service catalogue and a demand management process for integration services to be offered by Integration Excellence organization
  • Ensure staffing, tools and capabilities are built to deliver the agreed services according to the Service Catalogue and global delivery of services leveraging AZ Chennai.
  • The role is also accountable for the quality and effectiveness of Integration Platform services and for the management of an effective service from internal and third party service providers
  • The role will proactively manage customer expectations through both Project and Change level governance along with Service Levels communications and deployment of effective capacity, availability, investment, incident, problem and change management techniques and processes
  • Reports to the VP of Software Shared Services

Candidate Focus & Challenge

  • Lead IE Application Maintenance insourcing program, ensuring that IE services are transitioned to AZ Chennai seamlessly, without business disruption
  • Drives the definition of the underpinning integration architecture including the SOA platforms for the delivery of information efficiency and code re-use
  • Defines integration standards for use within the development community
  • Manages the Integration services, including database management, transaction handling, information transfer and aggregation
  • Establishes the delivery of Integration Excellence capability into the GTC (AZ Chennai)
  • Works closely with the Customer Facing IT Teams and with Technology Services to ensure delivery of emerging information needs and the exploitation of innovative technology
  • Supports and guides development teams in the application of integration standards and in the evolution of the middleware platforms
  • Ensures that full account is taken of the practicalities of integrating new technical capabilities into the business, including planning around key business cycles
  • Manages the provision of capacity, availability, incident, problem and change management processes and the performance of all parties within the Integration Excellence domain and working with other parties across IT to achieve effective performance of the above processes
  • Identifies and assesses mid to long-term risks inherent in proposed integration platform changes, to ensure any potential scheduling and performance issues have minimum impact on provision of other services.
  • Manages the Integration Platform services to the required SLAs, for both internal and external providers
    Ensures that correct Application Integration based documentation is maintained and that Lessons Learned are communicated to the rest of the Business.
  • Initiates and influences relationships with and between key stakeholders, in business change design, management and implementation, acting as a primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, planners, designers and operational business partners.
  • Ensures that stakeholders understand available services, and promotes financial and commercial awareness to deliver higher value on integration related spend by projects.
  • Negotiates at senior level on technical and commercial issues, to ensure that customers, suppliers and other stakeholders understand and agree what will meet their needs, and that appropriate service level agreements are defined and put in place.
  • Is responsible for various aspects of negotiation of major third party contracts, and changes to contracts and on-going monitoring/administration of contracts for the supply of products and/or services.
  • Leads regular service review meetings with suppliers and meets customer representatives regularly to monitor progress against issues and to ensure that an agreed level of service is maintained.

Job Dimensions

  • Management of AZ staff and contractors of approximately 200+ globally by 2016.
  • Managing outsourcing contracts and  large budgets > $1m
  • The position will report to the VP, Software Shared Services, will also work closely with I&O and CFIT area Directors and GTC leads
  • Will manage a small team of hub-based solution designers / Integration Service Management leads

  • The ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • This role will be a part of the Software Shared Services Leadership Team
