Emergency WASH Coordinator

NCA is rendering humanitarian and development assistance to people in the Middle East, and is currently responding to the crisis in Syria with humanitarian assistance to war affected populations in Syria and the neighbouring countries.

NCA is now seeking a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) coordinator for our WASH program targeting war affected Syrians. The overall objective for the NCA WASH coordinator is to coordinate/manage the WASH component of the Syria Emergency program in a targeted geographical area so as to address humanitarian needs and support protection of affected population and work for durable solutions of displaced populations with a foundation in humanitarian principles and human rights.

The position is based in the region and reports to the Regional Emergency Program Manager.
Contract period: 1.6.2015 - 31.5.2016

This position requires that the employed person can redeem all necessary travel visas, necessary permits and security clearance in the region.

Job description

  • In close cooperation with partners, assess the water supply, sanitation and hygiene needs of war affected populations
  • Develop, implement/support, monitor and evaluate appropriate WASH systems in order to meet people's basic public health needs in WASH
  • In cooperation with PMER support staff coordinate/establish remote monitoring mechanisms/tools that can be used to validate and evaluate WASH projects implemented by NCA and cooperating partners
  • Strengthen partners' capacity development as required in the field of WASH
  • Participate in monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the WASH program
  • Contribute to the development of proposals, budgets and reports, review and provide professional feedback to implementing partner organizations
  • Ensure NCA and partners' humanitarian WASH response meets minimum standards, address environmental concerns and promote sustainability
  • Ensure that WASH emergency activities are implemented with cultural sensitivity, supporting gender equity and inclusion of vulnerable groups
  • Participate in WASH sector coordination meetings as required

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in public health, civil or mechanical engineering
  • MCc in civil Engineering, Hydrology, Water Management or WASH
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience of WASH in Humanitarian or development assistance
  • Experience in remote management and monitoring strategies
  • Ability/experience in working cooperatiavely with partners and authorities
  • Experience in providing capacity building and mentoring of staff
  • Experience with the emergency project management cycle including report writing
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills
