ABOUT THE EMPLOYER

Aarhus University offers an inspiring education and research environment for 44,500 students and 11,500 members of staff, ensuring results of a high international standard. The budgeted turnover for 2015 amounts to DKK 6.2 billion. The university's strategy and development contract are available at www.au.dk/en.

The Department of Environmental Science is a newly established and highly interdisciplinary department under the Faculty of Science and Technology at Aarhus University. The expertise ranges from physics, chemistry, microbiology and mathematical modelling to social science, geography, economics and policy analysis. Both basic and applied research is conducted on some of the major challenges facing society, such as pollution and pollution control mechanisms, management of soil, water, air and biodiversity, protection of ecosystem services, climate change, and energy systems. Currently, about 130 staff and PhD-students are working at the department.  Further information may be found athttp://www.envs.au.dk

The PhD student will be affiliated with the Section for Atmospheric Modelling. The section conducts research targeted towards an understanding of fundamental atmospheric processes involved in atmospheric transport of air pollution. The section develops and applies local to hemispheric scale air pollution models that integrate with environmental and health impacts, economic considerations and climate changes. The aim is to provide the highest capability in Denmark for research, development, application, teaching and decision support within the area of air pollution modelling and integrated assessment modelling.

The PhD student will spent about 2 years of the PhD at Texas A&M University at Qatar. The Chemical Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar was developed in 2003 with the opening of the Branch Campus at Qatar. The Program follows the Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas program and the Diploma are valued as such.
