Postdoctoral Fellow Position in human performance and the resilience of sectors

ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2011 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre(SEC) in collaboration with the National research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems. In collaboration with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU), SEC is undertaking a research programme on “Future Resilient Systems”, providing an opportunity for about 40 PhD students and 25 PostDoc researchers to get a PhD degree and/or to strengthen their research skills in an inspiring cross-disciplinary research environment. Within this framework we are announcing the following job opening. Workplace is Singapore.

Postdoctoral Fellow Position in human performance and the resilience of sectors

Project: The research addresses the treatment of human performance in the analysis of system resilience. Methods to identify and model sectoral and inter-sector scenarios in which human performance and interdependencies are crucial to system resilience will be developed and applied. As part of a small team, the postdoctoral fellow’s work will center on scoping methods to treat the human element in sectoral risk management, from the development of scenarios to qualitative and quantitative screening analyses. Qualifications PhD in engineering, technical discipline, or natural sciences. Research and application experience in safety and reliability methods for complex systems. A background in safety analysis and especially probabilistic safety assessment methodology is highly desirable. Practical knowledge of the design or operation of systems with a high hazard potential would be helpful.

Prerequisites: Strong research capability, ability to analyze from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Highly interested in a range of technologies and technical disciplines. Able to work independently and to take initiative. Good communication skills. Motivated to interact with diverse technical experts. Fluent spoken and written English are required.
