Job summary:

The department “Safety of Structures” at Federal Institute for Materials research and testing (BAM) seeks for the group “Mechanics of materials” a post doctoral fellow to participate in cutting-edge research related to system identification and monitoring of bridges. The project is part of a joint research project dealing with aging infrastructures. The main focus of the project is concerned with the detection and localization of structural changes due to damage and temperature from vibration based data.

Profile of qualification:

  • PhD at university level with a background in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, physics, mathematics or similar fields
  • advanced knowledge in signal processing
  • sound background in FEM-methods and its implementation
  • programming experience (C++ or other)
  • above-average commitment, own initiative and the capability to independently carry out scientific work
  • good communication skills and ability to adapt to a team in an interdisciplinary surrounding
  • very good knowledge of English, knowledge of German is an advantage
