Communications Manager

The Nanotechnologies Industries Association (NIA) is the sector-independent, responsible voice for the industrial nanotechnologies supply chains. NIA Membership is made up of many varied companies, all of which are at different stages of their commercial existence and with a variety of interests in the large range of technologies that derive their benefit from the nanoscale. On behalf of its Members NIA is participating in several research projects with a view to support the ongoing innovation and commercialisation of nanotechnologies, nanomaterials and nano-enabled products.

Job overview:

NIA is looking for an enthusiastic, driven Communications Manager to be responsible for NIA’s public communications and visibility.

Main activities and responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Director General, you will develop an NIA Public Communication and Visibility Strategy. You will be responsible for the design/development and conduct of dissemination and communication conducted by NIA, including NIA’s dissemination and communication responsibilities in 3rd party projects . You will self-sufficiently implement and further develop the NIA Public Communication and Visibility Strategy, thereby incorporate, review and – if necessary improve - existing elements and initiatives, including, but not limited to:

  •    Monitoring of industry relevant nanotechnology related media coverage
  •    Drafting, editing and publication of nanotechnology related news articles
  •    Utilization of social media to increase NIA’s visibility by relevant target groups
  •    Creation and update of NIA marketing and promotional material
  •    Attendance of relevant meetings and events and presenting NIA views
  •    Publication of regular newsletters
  •    Review, update, maintenance and further development of the NIA website and social media presence
  •    Establishing of good media relations and updating of the media database
  •    Development and update of guides, templates, posters, brochures and digital media
  •    Proofreading and editing of documents in English

Experience and skills:

  •    Master degree (communication/engineering/life science/nanotechnology)
  •    Good understanding of nanotechnologies and nanomaterials
  •    At least three years experience in science communication
  •    Excellent knowledge of English and literacy skills. Other languages an asset
  •    Advanced knowledge of and proficiency in website development
  •    On-the-record media relations experience
  •    Knowledge of digital media production and design
  •    Strong communication, presentation and organisational skills
  •    Understanding of public policy issues impacting corporate reputation
  •    Consumer PR and social experience is a plus
  •    Knowledge of the European institutional environment
  •    Responsibility, flexibility, ability to work in a team and individually
  •    Strong discipline and communication skills to work in a virtual office environment
