Senior Project Manager

The Nanotechnologies Industries Association (NIA) is the sector-independent, responsible voice for the industrial nanotechnologies supply chains. NIA Membership is made up of many varied companies, all of which are at different stages of their commercial existence and with a variety of interests in the large range of technologies that derive their benefit from the nanoscale. On behalf of its Members NIA is participating in several research projects with a view to support the ongoing innovation and commercialisation of nanotechnologies, nanomaterials and nano-enabled products.

Job overview:

NIA is looking for an enthusiastic, driven project manager for European and International projects related to R&D, innovation and commercialisation supporting the advancement of nanotechnologies and nanomaterials; as an NIA Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the administration and management of NIA projects (e.g. NIA Public-Private-Partnerships, Horizon 2020, etc.), and their alignment with the NIA’s core mission. You will furthermore support strategy development at NIA, with a view to initiate and develop new projects.

Main activities and responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the NIA Director General, and in alignment with the NIA Mission, you will be responsible for the overall direction and the day-to-day management of specific NIA Projects, as well as their alignment within the NIA’s strategic work programme; the activities you are expected to conduct self-sufficiently include:

  •    Full incorporation of the project within the NIA’s bookkeeping
  •    Communication with project partners, and facilitation of communication between project partners (e.g. organising of teleconferences/project meetings/workshops/conferences)
  •    Representation of the project within NIA and of NIA within the project
  •    Conduct of NIA’s agreed role within the project
  •    Management of other NIA staff assigned to work on the project
  •    Project progress monitoring
  •    Preparation and processing of deliverables and financial reports
  •    Maintenance and update of websites
  •    Preparation of new project proposals, including the following activities:
    •    Monitoring and selection of suitable funding programmes
    •    Selection and development of project consortia
    •    Proposal drafting, structuring, commenting
    •    Networking and collection of information from tentative partners, processing of written inputs and background documents
    •    Preparation and writing of parts of the proposals
    •    Where appropriate: proposal submission and grant/consortium agreement preparation

Experience and skills:

  •   Master degree (engineering/life science/nanotechnology)
  •   Excellent understanding of nanotechnologies and nanomaterials
  •   5 to 8 years experience with project administration/management/proposal writing
  •   Knowledge of the European institutional environment and in the field of research and innovation
  •   Fluent in English
  •   Good computer and literacy skills, CMS experience an advantage
  •   Strong communication, presentation and organisational skills
  •   Target oriented
  •   Result-driven problem-solving skills with strong sense for diplomacy
  •   Understanding of public policy issues impacting corporate reputation
  •   Consumer PR and social experience is a plus
  •   Knowledge of the European institutional environment
  •   Responsibility, flexibility, ability to work in a team and individually
  •   Strong discipline and communication skills to work in a virtual office environment
