The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture has a vacancy for a position of post-doctoral assistant. It concerns a temporary full-time position for a one-time renewable period of three years.

EA01

A position of full time post-doctoral assistant at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning  (EA01) – salary at 100%: min. € 29.069,73 – max. € 45.317,25 (at present paid out at  160,84%)

Profile of the candidate

  • hold a diploma of Doctor of Architectural Sciences and Engineering or a degree recognized as equivalent (this requirement has to be fulfilled at the appointment date);
  • have interest in and experience with scientific research in the field of theory and history of architecture, especially of architecture criticism and contemporary architecture history;
  • have publications in scientific journals (specialized in architecture);
  • having actively participated in the broad cultural architecture debate is recommended;
  • be interested in education and guiding students in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

Job description

  • to provide assistance in the teaching duties of the department;
  • to conduct basic scientific research in the discipline of the theory and the history of (contemporary) architecture, en the relation of architecture to arts;
  • to cooperate in preparing scientific project applications

(the total amount of academic and administrative duties will be limited to maximum 30% of the assignment).

The temporary appointment can be renewed two times, on condition of a positive evaluation of the previous term. In general the appointment is for two years.

The period during which the applicant received a grant from a University of the Flemish community for preparing a PhD, or during which he/she was employed as a junior assistant, will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is 6 years according to the university decree.
