Structures and Transmissions (S&T) have the largest variety of components across the engine of any Supply Chain Unit within Rolls-Royce. Our component responsibility includes gears, gearboxes and radial/accessory drive shafts, Oil Tanks & Pumps, bearings, the major engine structures, engine casings and combustor as well as structural castings. We are responsible for capability development and global supply chain management of key strategic suppliers; and domestic manufacture of major engine structures in the UK.

We are creating a capability to design and test large main line gearboxes in our Dahlewitz site for the UltraFan TM. The challenge that this presents needs developments and implementation of manufacturing capability through research centres and our supply chain. Several positions have therefore become available in a new Manufacturing Engineering team based in a focused factory at the Lake Constance.

Principal Accountabilities

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Acquisition, development and implementation of new manufacturing technologies on new products in house and at suppliers
  • Implementing technical control strategies, technical documentation and methods of manufacture working with the Rolls-Royce design teams, external suppliers and external technology centres
  • Presenting manufacturing supply chain capability to the design teams to ensure a match between the design and process capability, and to implement new capabilities in new parts manufacturing programmes
  • Management of internal / external manufacturing process planning, fixturing and measurement tasks to plan
  • Manufacturing technical and quality documentation
  • Implementation and use manufacturing engineering systems e.g. CAD/CAM, CA Quality systems
  • Supporting functional departments and manufacturing areas in the resolution of technical issues

Qualifications and experience

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering with a strong experience in gear manufacturing
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials, machining processes, machine tools, advanced manufacturing technologies, and inspection practices is advantageous, but the aptitude to learn rapidly will be a necessity
  • Ability to assemble diverse teams and drive results. A high computer literacy (e.g. CAD/CAM Catia or Siemens NX) and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels on technical issues needs to be demonstrated
  • Ability to successfully deliver technically challenging products through complex manufacturing process chains to plan
  • Must possess enthusiasm for implementing robust processes, and for driving new methods of working
  • Ability to interface with both internal and external customers including previous experience of leading within a complex stakeholder organisation.
