Postdoctoral Researcher, Bayesian Networks

The Department of Information Processing Science at the University of Oulu (http://www.oulu.fi/tol/) is seeking a candidate for a three-year postdoctoral research position, starting late April /early May 2015. The successful applicant will carry out their postdoc in the research area of tools for decision making. This research is part of a recently granted Tekes’ Finnish Distinguished Professor (FiDiPro) application, to be led by Professor Emilia Mendes (FiDiPro Visiting Professor) in collaboration with Professor Burak Turhan (University of Oulu).

The specific requirements for this postdoc position are the following:

  • A Completed PhD in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science.
  • Clear evidence of solid knowledge and research in Bayesian Networks.
  • Very good English skills (writing, speaking)
  • A promising publication record including at least two fully-refereed papers at good quality international journals.

The position is closely linked with M-Group research group at the Department of Information Processing Science. M-Group’s research theme is empirical software engineering. The application domains include telecom, automotive and healthcare. M-Group’s collaboration with industry provides the empirical environment for the research. Software Factory and the related ecosystem with companies and other software factories provides an environment in which the group can carry out student experiments as well as industrial experiments and case studies. M-Group has a long tradition in international collaboration. The group is a member of the top software engineering research network ISERN (M-Group director Prof. Oivo is one of its six founding members) and has actively participated in large European research projects since the 1990’s. Over 30% of the group is international members. There are two world-class FiDiPro professors working in the group. Members of the group have published their research in leading software engineering journals and conferences, e.g. IEEE Transactions on SE, IEEE Software, Empirical SE, Information and Software Technology, Journal of Systems and Software, and International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE).

Salary

The postdoctoral position is available for 3 years. The salary of the postdoctoral researcher will be on levels 5 or 6 of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, supplementary remuneration will be given for personal achievement and performance, the sum rising to a maximum of 46.3% of the salary scale. In practice, the salary will be about 3300 to 4000 EUR at the start of the period depending in the qualifications.
