postdoctoral position

The lab-STICC (UMR CNRS 6285, Laboratory of Sciences and Techniques of Information, Communication and Knowledge, France) and CEA Le Ripault offer an immediate opening for a postdoctoral position for research and engineering activities in electromagnetic characterization of materials.

Description

CEA Le Ripault develops electronic devices suitable for the broadband radiofrequency characterization of magnetized anisotropic materials for applications in engineering microwave. Recent years have seen the emergence of new concepts of devices using the changes of spatial properties of electromagnetic fields in resonant cavity advantageously for isolators, circulators or modulators microwave potentially more efficient than existing generations. The combined use of multi-scale in electromagnetism and micro-magnetism design software as well as new materials now lets consider the realization of innovative electronic devices, also combining several recent advances in spin electronics.
In this context, the problem of measurement of the electromagnetic (EM) properties of gyrotropic materials. Lab-STICC has a long experience in the field of characterization EM of materials, and, in particular, that of the anisotropic magnetic materials. Several measurement techniques of the permeability tensor of magnetic materials (polycrystalline ferrites, magneto-dielectric composite) have been developed in the laboratory in the past. The most complete version of these techniques is based on the measurement of the scattering parameters (S-parameters) of a strip-line transmission line, inside which is inserted the gyrotropic material being measured. To go back to all of the constitutive parameters of materials (relative complex permittivity and complex permeability tensor elements), the measuring cell must be non-reciprocal. Characterization method was validated by comparison with results from theoretical models. However, she remained at the stage of prototype laboratory.
The CEA Le Ripault and Lab-STICC wish pooling in this post-doctoral study their respective competencies to achieve the industrial transfer of the method of measurement of the tensor of permeability originally developed at the Lab-STICC.
The successful candidate is expected to perform research and engineering in electromagnetic characterization of magnetic materials and develop a measurement technique to determine the permeability tensor components magnetized anisotropic material (gyrotropic materials). The technical background of the candidate will be in electromagnetics and microwave characterization. Ideally, he or she will have experience in a microwave research and engineering environment.
