Sensor Technologies for Precision Agriculture
The aim this PhD position is to develop and deploy new Wireless Sensor Technologies targeted at the monitoring of farm animal activity and the measurement of milk production yields and quality. The successful candidate will form a key part of an interdisciplinary team of Scientists and Engineers working at the forefront of Precision Agriculture. The candidate is expected to work as part of a Science Foundation Ireland funded team dedicated to the development a prototype precision dairy platform in collaboration with research teams from the disciplines of sensor and biosensor development, communication protocols and bio-informatics. The PhD student’s major responsibility will be to pursue their own doctoral studies. The student will be expected to develop their own scientific concepts and communicate the results of their research verbally and in writing to both a national and international audience.

Qualifications
Essential
• Applicants should hold or expect to attain, a first class honours degree, or equivalent, in Physics, Applied Physics or Electronic Engineering.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
• Good knowledge of IR sensors, Wireless Sensor Networks.
• Familiarity and experience with a high-level programming language (Visual Basic, C++ etc.) and embedded programming languages such as IAR or Keil.
Desirable
• Good System on Chip Programming skills (PSoC).
Skills & Competencies
Essential
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to lead parts of work and also take direction from the supervision team.
