Research Assistant or Research Associate in Engineering Mathematics (Manufacturing Supply Network Dynamics)

Merchant Venturers' School of Engineering
Fixed term contract staff
Full time
Salary: £31,342-£35,256 (Grade I), £35256-£39685 (Grade J)
Job number: ACAD101326

Based in the Department of Engineering Maths, we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible to join the second half of an exciting multidisciplinary EPSRC-funded project with the Universities of Nottingham, Strathclyde and Coventry along with a wide range of industrial partners.

You will carry out leading research in supply network risk using tools from dynamical systems theory and network science. To strengthen the UK’s role in the manufacturing of high-value goods, novel strategies for an active management of supply networks are necessary. Going beyond linear supply chains and classical supply risk, requires new modelling approaches and model analysis methods which combine insights from disparate areas of mathematics. A background in nonlinear science, dynamical systems, network theory and/or quantitative social sciences will be desirable.

This post is offered on a full time, fixed term contract for 15 months in the first instance (with the possibility of extension) depending on experience and grade at appointment.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Alan Champneys (a.r.champneys@bristol.ac.uk) or Dr. Thilo Gross (thilo2gross@gmail.com)

The successful applicant for this vacancy may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of their previous relevant research experience, in line with the University’s Fixed Term Contract Agreement. Further information can be found at www.bristol.ac.uk/hr/ftc/
