POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

The appointment is for two years, starting May/June 2015. Theposition will be filled with 4 months trialperiod.

We are looking for a post doctoral researcher with a PhD degree in engineering, (bio)chemistry, physics or pharmacy (or related field) and previous experience on (bio)analytical chemistry, optics, electrochemistry, microfluidics or microfabrication.

The appointment is in an EU project which aims at developing integrated chemical microsystems for environmental and bioanalysis. The research field is bio-inspired chemistry and work includes developing and setting up of high-throughput microarrays based on optical and/or electrochemical sensing. A strong emphasis is put on studying the crosstalk between pharmaceuticals’ consumption and the chemical load in the environment.

Successful candidate should be experienced in one or more of the following fields: optical microscopy and (integrated) optics, spectroscopic techniques (e.g., fluorescence, absorbance, mass spectrometry), electrochemistry, microfluidics or cleanroom microfabrication (polymer processing). Prior experience on mathematical and numerical method development (e.g., Comsol, Matlab) and CAD-based device design are considered an advantage. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English) and ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary research team are also required.

Depending on the applicant’s background, the work will include development of optical and/or electrochemical settings for microfluidic assays including chemical laboratory work. Participation in the supervision of PhD students/research assistants is also expected.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel of the new salary system of the Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. In total, the salary will be 3100-3800 EUR per month. All standard pension benefits and occupational health care are provided for university employees.
