PhD scholarship within characteristics of a good childhood environment

The PhD scholarship holder will be affiliated with the Section of Public Health Science.
The section is composed of scientific staff members with background and competence in public health, epidemiology, health psychology, social sciences, environmental psychology, occupational science, landscape architecture, health and planning and nature interventions. It applies a wide perspective on health, public health science and public health work. There is emphasis on environmental and societal factors that systematically influences population health, local planning processes and on mitigation of social inequalities in health. The section’s research profile is related to health promotion and preventive factors within following areas:
Physical environments, including natural and cultural environments
Psychosocial factors in childhood, work and local communities 
Meaningful activities as an health promoting factor
Governance of public health

Description

Main tasks
The PhD candidate will work with neighborhood factors important for a good childhood.
Safe and stimulating environments for children and youth is one of the most important responsibilities in our society. Through inclusive local communities that enable the children to play and to participate in valued and meaningful activities, whether organized or non-organized, will strengthen the children and youth’s health and well-being.
There is limited knowledge about how different planning strategies and particularly the quality of green areas, building density and typologies affect children and their well-being. In this project, we wish to investigate the quality of the local environment such as greenness, building density and typology of specific residential structure and its association to children’s well-being.

The project is based at the Section for Public Health and it will include insight from environmental psychology, spatial planning, landscape architecture, geographic information systems, occupational science, and epidemiology.


Academic Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a Master's degree in public health sciences, spatial planning, landscape architecture, social science, epidemiology or similar.
