Description

Post Summary

An exciting Research Fellow position exists in Trinity in the Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, linked to a project recently funded and in collaboration with a number of industrial partners.

The successful candidate will be affiliated to the Manufacturing Technology and Systems Research Group, and directly responding to Professor Rocco Lupoi (the Principal Investigator). The project is aimed at the development of a novel coating process, known as Cold Spray (CS), for the efficient manufacturing of special coatings for commercial applications in Ireland. CS is a technology whereby it is possible to manufacture layers of materials in a solid–state manner onto engineering components through the acceleration of particles in a supersonic nozzle. Melting temperatures are never crossed. The project will therefore envisage CS as a new solution with a number of potential advantages over the state of the art, and will enable the tools for an efficient industrial implementation.

The Research Fellow will have gained hands-on experience during the course of his/her PhD studies and/or within an industrial environment or previous post-doctoral positions. The programme will develop state of the art CS systems to achieve set targets in collaboration with industry, and will involve the design of CS nozzles, the development of process simulations, the development of gas systems, materials selection / testing, and the execution of experiments.

This post is available for a 15 months contract .The starting salary is €38,860 p/a. Annual increments are applicable and will follow national regulations.
