Ghent University - iMinds - Multimedia Lab

Multimedia Lab (MMLab) is a research group within Ghent University (Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Electronics and Information Systems). This lab has a wide range of activities, including fundamental/basic research, applied research, and contract-based research with over a 100 industrial partners. Internationally, MMLab is active in European projects and standardization committees. In addition, MMLab is doing scientific consultancy for both industrial and governmental partners and is one of the founding research groups of iMinds.

To strengthen the activities within the area of digital video coding and transmission, MMLab is currently recruiting motivated researchers.

Job description:
You will participate in fundamental and applied research projects. Together with your colleagues you will investigate new techniques and algorithms for (trans)coding and compression of digital video data and visual content for networked multimedia systems. On top of that, you will keep track of the latest developments in the scientific literature and in international standardization committees such as MPEG.
Profile:
You have a Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or Mathematics. You have an in-depth knowledge of C/C++ and you are highly proficient in English (both written and oral – providing a recent TOEFL test result is advised). You are willing to participate in fundamental and applied research projects in the area of digital video coding. Knowledge of video coding standards is an asset.
