Description of the job

A vacancy for an Image Chain Technical Manager/Architecture Expert (m/f) has arisen at Airbus Defence and Space at its Toulouse site.

As part of the "Satellite User & Control Ground System CoC" unit, the TSOEF52 "Image Chain" department covers research and development activities for entire image processing chains for observation systems.
We are looking for an Image Chain Software Architect/Technical Manager to strengthen the department engineering team. The successful candidate must have a strong technical and customer-focused background, and be responsible for the design and technical coordination of Image Chain ground segment projects.
Our software projects form a recognised solution within Airbus for mass processing of data: MultiSat. They cover a large number of computer technologies, ranging from Python scripts to the use of the latest frameworks for web applications. A particular technical challenge that we have to manage is that of maintaining the level of our solutions given the technological developments related to Big Data and the Cloud.
As part of the engineering team, you will help to define the technical roadmap for image chain products and solutions, maintain a technical network and perform technology monitoring in order to prepare the solutions of the future.

This position will require security clearance or eligibility for clearance by the recognised authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

Depending on opportunities, your activities will include:

• Being technically responsible for an Image Chain ground segment project

Being in charge of the technical coordination of the project activities

• Interfacing with internal or external customers depending on the project
• Writing the architecture dossier and the technical elements of the project
• Assessing the impact on existing systems or products
• Writing responses to calls for tender
• Being responsible for system R&D research
• Participating in the definition of the roadmap and Image Chain products
• Being responsible for technology monitoring
• Reporting to the customer and management

Short overseas missions may be necessary, depending on the projects.

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience:

• Degree in General Engineering, IT or Telecommunications
• At least 5 years of experience in:
• Software development, including very good knowledge of problems related to software development
• The design and production of IT systems (from specifications to customer acceptance)
• The production of satellite ground segments

Knowledge of the implementation of data processing chains, including mass processing and distribution of processing would be an advantage.
Experience with Image Chains for Earth observation satellite image processing would be a plus.
Knowledge of the challenges of HPC, Big Data, the Cloud and the associated technologies would be an advantage.
