Research expert Immunobiology

The Laboratory of Immunobiology (Rega Institute, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, KU Leuven) invites applicants for a full-time position as research expert (m/f). We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person with an excellent research record in immunobiology.

Description

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is internationally rewarded for its expertise in fundamental research, prevention and treatment of important diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites; the study of complex host-microbiome interaction; and the study of the immune system in infections, cancer, renal disease, autoimmunity, allergies and organ transplants. The Rega Institute is part of this department and has a long-standing expertise in technologies for microbiological, biochemical, immunological, and cell biological in silico, in vitro, and in vivo research projects. The Laboratory of Immunobiology is part of the Rega Institute and studies the interactions between host and pathogens, including the reciprocal influences of the environment, genetics and immune system.
- You are an expert in the research fields of degradomics, reverse degradomics, zymography, activity testing, proteases and protease inhibition. You share your expert knowledge within and outside the research group
- You are responsible for the recombinant production and preparative separation of MMP-9 forms
- You manage your own research project on MMP-9 gelatinolysis in migration of leukocytes
- You manage your own research project on the structural and functional study of MMP-9 in angiogenesis
- You are responsible for the scientific support of the research team and for collaborations within the research team (ex. writing and coordinating research projects, follow-up of European projects, guidance of (PhD) students, writing and follow-up of Ethical Committee applications,...)
- You are responsible for the (inter)national distribution of research results and expertise (ex. publication of results, participation in (inter)national conferences, managing external collaborations, builing and maintaining the professional research network, valorization of research results,...)

- PhD in Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or Bioengineering
- Preferentially 5 to 10 years of research experience in the research domain of the laboratory of Immunobiology
- Expert knowledge in the field of MMPs
- Experience with guiding students
- Experience with writing scientific publications, research projects and grant applications
- Experience with managing large-scale research projects (ex. EU projects)
- Profound expertise with animal work (certificate FELASA B and C, or comparible)
- Profound knowledge of biochemical and immunobiological techniques
