The Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry (Rega Institute, Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, KU Leuven) invites applicants (m/f) for a full-time position as research expert. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person with an excellent research record in the field of medicinal chemistry.
Description
The Rega Institute has a long-standing expertise in technologies for microbiological, biochemical, immunological, and cell biological in silico, in vitro, and in vivo research projects. The Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry is part of the Rega Institute. Its interests lay in the field of peptide, nucleoside and oligonucleotide chemistry. New substances are synthesized, analyzed and evaluated for activity in vitro.
- You are responsible for managing existing research projects (ex. translate strategic plan specific objectives, guard timelines, financial management, build out and maintain a broad international scientific network,...)
- You are responsible for developing new research lines (ex. introducing new technologies such as in vitro selection systems and library approaches) and you actively seek for funding opportunities
- You coordinate the research activities of the laboratory (ex. daily coordination of practical issues within the research group, supporting and motivating team members, communication of decisions, creating an atmosphere in which innovative research can be conducted, introducing new techniques and instruments, experimental supervision and guidance of students, postdocs and technical staff,...)
- You ensure the position of the laboratory within the research domain (ex. participating in international conferences, looking for new opportunities and collaborations within the research field,...)
- You support the laboratory head and the research group (ex. coordinating research projects and reporting, writing and correcing scientific manuscripts, implementing general objectives in different research projects, creating scientific and technical synergy between the different research projects,...)

- PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineer Sciences, or Biomedical Sciences
- At least 10 years of relevant research experience in the research domain of the laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry
- Expert knowledge on chemistry, biochemistry, enzymology, biotechnology and microbiology
- Broad expertise in the research field of synthetic biology, more specific in the field of in vitro selection and in vitro evolution
- Excellent analytical skills
- Experience with nucleic acid work and protein work (spectropolarimeter, fluorimeter, microscopy, SPR biosensor, FPLC, HPLC)
- Experience with writing scientific manuscripts and grant applications
- Experience with guiding students
- Excellent communicative skills (verbal and written)
- Experience with project-, lab-, and time management
- Experience with coordinating and managing several different research projects
- Responsible, independent, team player
