PhD Position - Waste Heat Recovery Systems

JOB DESCRIPTION

PhD in Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRs)

Cambridge CARES is the University of Cambridge’s presence in Singapore sponsored by the NRF CREATE program, CAM.CREATE. The research programme Cambridge Centre for Carbon Reduction in Chemical Technology (C4T) is a joint Cambridge, NTU, and NUS research activity within Cambridge CARES.
Cambridge CARES is looking for a PhD candidate in Waste Heat Recovery Systems to support the C4T research team. We are inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for this position. The PhD candidate will be supervised by Profs Alessandro ROMAGNOLI and Markus KRAFT. The candidate will conduct research that includes the techno-economic assessment of waste heat recovery systems in the context of a complex model of an eco-industrial park and the development of computational models for new waste heat recovery technology. A generous monthly stipend aligned with university standards will be provided for a period of 4 years.

More in detail, the successful candidate will focus on:

  • Assessment of current WHRs (ASPEN, gPROMS)
  • Development of mathematical models (parametric analysis) for WHRs which are not currently available in the market but that could find implementation in the medium-long term future
  • Integration of developed WHRs models into the eco-industrial park process model flow sheet & assessment of impact of WHRs on energy efficiency and economics

Besides the specific research on WHRs, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the structure of the basic computational platform of the eco-industrial park. This activity will be carried out together with the existing C4T research team.

More information about the C4T Programme can be found on www.cares.cam.ac.uk.
