PhD - Thermal Energy Storage for Low Grade Waste Heat Recovery

JOB DESCRIPTION

Nanyang Technological University (NTU, www.ntu.edu.sg ) is looking for a PhD candidate in Thermal Energy Storage for Low Grade Waste Heat Recovery. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the PROMES laboratory of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) at the University of Perpignan (http://www.univ-perp.fr). NTU is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for this position. The PhD candidate will be supervised by Profs Alessandro ROMAGNOLI and Xavier PY. The candidate will conduct research that includes study on formulation and characterization of sensible, latent heat or thermo-chemical storage materials for waste heat recovery, simulation and experimental analysis for system level implementation.

More in detail, the successful candidate will focus on:

  • Assessment of current WHR systems
  • Formulation and characterization of materials for thermal storage
  • Heat and fluid flow analysis of thermal energy storage charge/discharge cycle
  • System level analysis and experiment

The successful candidate will be conducting his research between NTU and CNRS. This will offer opportunity for travelling and gain experience in different research environment. A generous monthly stipend aligned with university standards will be provided for a period of 4 years.

How to Apply:

To submit your application, please click on the "APPLY" button. Interested candidates should send the completed form, along with a full CV, with the names and contacts (including email addresses) of three referees, and all relevant academic certificates.

Only short-listed candidates will be notified for interview.
Application closes on the 27th of March.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Job Requirements:

Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field from reputable universities. The candidate should have a good knowledge of process system engineering, thermo-fluids and materials. Previous research experiences in thermal storage and computational fluid dynamic are highly beneficial.  Strong oral and written communication skills in English are essential.

Applicants must satisfy entrance requirements into graduate programs in NTU. The successful candidate is expected to commence in August 2015.
