Research Assistant, 2 positions

Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems (MEI) is a significant masters- and doctoral degree educator in the field of mechanical engineering nationwide. The department is a wide-ranging environment for teaching and research, which corresponds to the needs of our more and more complex world.

Job description:

Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems opens two Research Assistant’s positions within ProMaGNet project.

Position 1:

The topic of the task is the Engineering Change Management (ECM) of configuration knowledge. The first objective is to conduct a literature survey on the topic. The second objective is to carry out a case study on the ECM of product family structures in a collaborative company. The third objective is to study the possibilities of ECM / product family structures in a selected IT-support (PLM, ERP, Engineering Configurator). The results of the task will be reported both internally and with publications.

Position 2:

The topic of the task is the Engineering Change Management (ECM) in product development process (focusing especially on the productization stage of new product development). The first objective is to conduct a literature survey on the topic. The second objective is to carry out a case study on the ECM of product development in a collaborative company. This includes the analysis of engineering change data and their effects as well as the synthesis of improvement initiatives. The third objective is to study the possibilities of enhancing ECM in product development in a selected IT-support (PLM, ERP). The results of the task will be reported both internally and with publications.

Requirements:

Position 1:

  1. The task requires capabilities to study and synthesize literature both independently and within a team.
  2. Another requirement is the ability to take part in the development tasks and teams of collaborating company.
  3. The applicant has to have the basic knowledge on the configurable product family structures and Product Lifecycle Management processes and systems.
  4. The ability to produce internal reports and publications is needed in the task.

The prior knowledge of ECM and/or configuration management processes is candidate’s preferable capacity. Also, the skills of research methods and study performance, as well as suitable studies are an asset for a candidate. Positions will be filled by interview.

The work is a part of Digital Manufacturing SHOK program (MANU, 2012-2017). Strategic Centres for Science, Technology and Innovation carry out long-term cooperation in fields most crucial for the future. Thus, the program provides a view to international state of the art research and an opportunity to study the practices of internationally competitive companies.

The position will be filled as soon as possible for the period of 4 to 8 months. Possibilities to continue as a researcher in the project will be assessed during the project.

Salary:

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff the position of a research assistan is placed on the job demands level 1. In addition, employees receive performance based salary.

Trial period:

Trial period of one (1) month applies.
