CSCS, the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre, is a unit of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich). It provides, develops, and promotes technical and scientific services for the Swiss research community in high-performance computing (HPC). We have an opening for the position of:

Computational Scientist for Data Science

The vacancy is within the Scientific Community Engagement Group, whose mission is to support and guide the Swiss research community in the exploitation of cutting-edge High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions for their scientific production.
The focus of the position is to design, experiment and develop solutions enabling efficient data services, tools and frameworks, exploiting scalable high-performance computing and/or cloud computing approaches to enable and automate the processing of massive, complex datasets coming from scientific experiments, observations or numerical simulations.

For this role, candidates are required to have a postgraduate degree in applied mathematics, physics, statistics or computer science. A Ph.D. in the same areas is considered an advantage. Candidates are expected to be familiar with C or C++ programming languages, common scripting and analysis tools, such as Python, R etc., and distributed and high performance computing environments.
Additional selection criteria include experience with the following: iPython; automating data processing workflows; data analytics and data mining methodologies; relational and NoSQL database technologies; web technologies.

The ideal candidate is a team player and feels comfortable working in an international and multidisciplinary environment. You have strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to independently develop ideas and solutions for data science services for various scientific communities.
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (official working language) is required. Knowledge of Italian, German and/or French is considered an advantage.

The appointment at CSCS is permanent (probation period of three months). The salary is competitive and commensurate to experience and qualifications and the start date will be as soon as possible.
