Urban-wide data harvesting and dissemination for the Internet of Everything

The candidate will investigate the mobile and volatile nature of opportunistic networks devoted to harvest and disseminate urban wide data for the Internet of Everything. This includes the design of networking techniques able to cope with the unpredictable and resource-constrained nature of mobile entities. From this basis, ad hoc networking will be considered as an enabler for infrastructure-less communication. More in detail, technical inspiration could come from Delay/Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) and Information Centric Networking (ICN) paradigms, as both support local, direct communication among mobile nodes. Solutions will be designed considering multimedia data to be exchanged and considering optimization problems where the best solution has to be found for the tradeoff between data availability and the need to generate low communication overhead and redundancy
