Implementation of soft sensors for the monitoring and control for the production of complex fluids

Mass production of high added value complex fluids is a challenging task, in view of their apparent intrinsic non-Newtonian nature. As a consequence, slight changes in the process conduction can lead to off-spec products and significant downtimes in the production. In most of cases first principle modeling of the process is not viable and one should resort to data driven empirical models.

The aim of the research is to address the control of high added value fluids production by means of a data driven model based control, in order to achieve smoothly running processes.

The researcher must be able to:

a. develop data based empirical models in order to describe the process under investigation;

b. implement and propose a model based control strategy which is the most proper for the process;

c. develop the related software (the codes should be preferably written in the Matlab® or Fortran framework);

d. draw the main conclusions on the work.
