The Programme Manager is given overall strategic objectives by the Service Delivery Manager. The Programme Manager is responsible for leading the team of Energy Project Managers and is responsible for the successful delivery of a programme of high profile and high value energy and engineering related projects within the constraints of scope, quality, time, and cost, to deliver specified requirements and meet customer satisfaction. The Programme Manager is expected to deliver industry leading energy efficiency, control and generation solutions for our B2B customers across all industry sectors.
Nature and Scope
The large majority of B2B customers are now affected by carbon regulations (e.g. CCA, ESD, EU ETS, EPBD CRC Energy Efficiency scheme, FIT). Many require our customers to reduce their carbon emissions through reducing consumption or converting to low carbon forms of energy. The ever increasing cost of energy also means that the commercial pressure to reduce energy consumption has never been greater. This creates an unprecedented need for energy services offerings in the UK across all industry sectors.
The Programme Manager within the B2B Energy Services team plays a leading role in the projects we deliver for a range of sectors from industrial, commercial property, public sector, education, retail and SME. The role-holder reports to the Service Delivery Manager and is office based with a requirement to visit customers and third party delivery partners throughout the UK and occasionally Europe.
The Programme Manager is responsible for leading the team of Energy Project Managers and is responsible to ensure the team works collaboratively across the EDF Group to ensure products are communicated and delivered to customers so as to enhance the customer experience and to provide competitive differentiation.
The Programme Manager will frequently meet and work with customers as part of our key account approach. It will be expected for the role-holder to manage a complex programme of projects with multiple stakeholders. The projects will be for a wide range of B2B customers across all B2B sectors therefore the successful candidate must have experience of managing projects across these sectors.
Projects are required to be project managed to a high standard to ensure high quality projects delivered on time, to budget and in accordance with the relevant health and safety regulations and EDF Energy Zero Harm policy.
Principal Accountabilities
- Key decision maker in selecting the projects for the team in terms of budget control, resource and project planning, technical competence and health and safety;
- Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with health & safety regulations (e.g. CDM) and EDF Energy’s “Zero Harm Policy”;
- Responsible for change management and to escalate to the Service Delivery Manager if internal teams and external third parties are to be impacted;
- Manage external partners (technology providers, contractors, consulting companies, etc) and manage suppliers and contractors both remotely and on-site;
- Manage customer relationships and expectations in order to deliver exceptional levels of customer service;
- Produce regular performance reporting for senior stakeholders and operational teams;
- During periods of high activity the Programme Manager will be responsible to develop, drive and implement high value infrastructure projects (>£1 million in value) using industry recognised practices and governance in order to support the team;
- Responsible for agreeing in partnership with the Engineering Manager the most appropriate measurement and verification methodology for individual projects as part of our energy savings guarantee. (e.g. IPMVP);
- Conduct on-site energy assessments for our B2B customers resulting in the identification of savings opportunities;
- Develop and present business cases to facilitate investment decisions amongst key decision makers and senior stakeholders, both internal and external;
- Support commercial teams with the develop of innovative forms of financing energy efficiency projects;
- Review and approve project plans ensuring governance and policies are followed;
- Responsible to lead and coach the team by providing specialist technical advice to ensure successful delivery of high value infrastructure projects;
- Actively promotes the sharing of knowledge and expertise across all teams in EDF;
- Responsible to lead the team to work in partnership with the Product Development and Sales Team, H&S team, contract management and procurement teams in EDF.
Skills and Qualifications
- A good higher level engineering degree (MEng. or higher) or equivalent industry experience is required;
- Chartered Engineer or Project Manager status preferred;
- Leadership and management experience required;
- Extensive project/programme management experience;
- Experience in the areas of energy management, process engineering and/or related fields;
- Excellent track record of delivering successful technical projects in the energy or construction industries;
- Excellent knowledge and experience of health and safety regulations governing electrical and mechanical systems and construction;
- Health and safety qualifications preferred;
- Experience of working with B2B organisations in either the private or public sectors;
- A good understanding of the B2B energy services markets.
