Job Details
Background
The Division of Space Technology is based at the Space Campus in Kiruna, the space capital of Sweden. The town is located on the 67th parallel north, about 150 km above the Polar Circle, which enables a set of unique conditions for space-related research and industry. It is home to an array of space activities, including the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) and the Esrange Space Center, along with a consortium of multinational companies. Several ESA’s antennas are also located in Kiruna, providing facilities for tracking, telemetry and radiometric measurements. Kiruna is a popular tourist attraction for its icehotel, midnight sun and northern lights. It also hosts the world’s largest underground iron ore mine.
The current research in the Division of Space Technology is in remote sensing, atmospheric physics and instrument development, and is of a very high international standard. LTU is now expanding the research in the space technology field with a new group in Onboard Space Systems. The scientific leader for the group is Prof. Reza Emami with a strong background in aerospace mechatronics and robotics. We currently seek two Postdoctoral fellows to join his team.
Subject Description
Onboard space systems include systems for control, instrumentation, communication and manipulation in the upper atmosphere, in space and on the planetary surfaces. Of particular importance are miniaturized, autonomous mechanical, electronic and processing modules and robotic systems.
Duties
The goal of this research is to advance autonomy by expanding upon the role that social behaviourcan play in heterogeneous multi-agent systems, such as robot teams and satellite constellations, in real-life uncertain and unstructured scenarios.
The candidates will take a central role in our research projects including collaboration with our industrial and academic partners. The positions are primarily research-oriented, but with possibilities for the candidates to be involved in limited teaching activities at the department.
The candidates will have the possibility to:
- Participate in on-going activities for securing future funding of existing and new research projects.
- Co-supervise Ph.D. students and master’s students within the area.
- Collaborate with other academic and industrial partners.
- Publish the research results in internationally renowned journals and at international scientific conferences.
Requirements
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for employment as a postdoctoral research fellow, you must have a PhD, or doctoral degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctorate or doctoral degree. For this position a Ph.D. in multi-agent systems and performance enhancement mechanisms is meriting as well as advanced research on satellite formation and adaptive synchronous control. Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their Ph.D. within three years prior to the application deadline. If there are special circumstances, the Ph.D. can have been completed earlier. Special circumstances mean leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical practice, trade union duties, or similar. Applicants who are very close to finish a PhD are also encouraged to apply.
Assessment criteria
The following assessment criteria apply for the position:
- Certificate of PhD degree
- Scientific publications
- Ability to attract externally funded research projects
- International collaboration
- Ability to collaborate with industry
