JOB DESCRIPTION

DESY, Hamburg location, is seeking:
Postdoctoral Scientist (f/m) for Detector Science and Instrumentation


DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.
In the framework of the ERC Synergy Grant project AXSIS (Attosecond X-ray Science: Imaging and Spectroscopy) a team of international scientists is designing and building compact attosecond hard X-ray sources to explore their use in attosecond serical X-ray crystallography and spectroscopy to make movies of biological, chemical and physical processes on an attosecond time scale with atomic resolution.


The position

  • Coordination of the mechanics construction
  • Integration of the detector system into the DAQ system
  • Testing and commissioning of the detector
  • Participation in the first scientific experiments

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Engineering or related fields
  • Experience in (solide state) detector science and instrumentation
  • Experience in sophisticated scientific instrumentation
  • Experience in data acquisition and software
  • Preferably experience in photon science experiments
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Enthusiastic team player
