Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST) 

Research Fellowship in High Stiffness Aluminium Materials

Full-time, fixed-term for 3 years

Salary (Grade R1): £33,508 - £39,560 pa incl. London Weighting

Applications from suitably qualified and well motivated individuals are invited for the position of Research Fellowship in high stiffness aluminium materials in BCAST at Brunel University London. 

The successful candidate will work on the development of aluminium based composite and hybrid materials for automotive applications. The research will include optimising the combination of matrix alloys and reinforcing materials and structures, selecting suitable processing techniques and demonstrating selected components for automotive applications. He/she is also expected to interact with other researchers in BCAST and research engineers from industry.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate should have a PhD degree in materials science and engineering, physics or another suitable engineering discipline, and should have a sound background in physical metallurgy. Research experience in processing metal matrix composites and hybrid structures, skills in microstructural characterisation using various microscopy techniques and a working knowledge of mechanical testing of metallic materials are essential. In addition, he/she should have good communication and presentation skills and be a team player.
