FACULTY POSITIONS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING: TRANSPORTATION

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (FCFM) of the University of Chile invites applications for two full time faculty positions in Transport Engineering, starting no later than the second semester of 2015. Applicants with research interests on traffic flow theory, traffic engineering, operations and control of transport systems, logistics and sustainable transport are encouraged to apply, although any application within the domain of transport engineering will be considered.

Responsibilities of the selected applicants will include: developing an externally funded, internationally recognized research program; teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; supervising graduate student research; and establishing links with the industry and public agencies.

The University of Chile is the largest research institution in Chile and one of the leading universities in South America. The FCFM develops research and teaching activities in basic sciences (physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry and geology) as well as in nine fields of engineering, thus providing an excellent environment to perform cutting edge research on multidisciplinary problems. The Department of Civil Engineering has traditionally prepared engineers who after graduation fill the high ranks of (or take leading roles in) public agencies and private companies, and the quality of its teaching and research is periodically recognized in national and international rankings. The University of Chile is located in Santiago, the country’s capital, which offers a variety of cultural activities, has a mild and sunny weather, and it is located within one hour from both the imposing Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Application requirements:

1. Possess a PhD degree (at the moment of joining the faculty), and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research and teaching in the area of application. Fluency in Spanish language is not a requirement but the selected applicants will be expected to be able to teach in Spanish after a few semesters.

2. Submit a complete package including CV, proof of academic and/or professional degrees, three recommendation letters from experts in the academic field, a brief research and teaching plan for undergraduate and graduate level, and copies of the three most relevant publications.
