PhD Case Award: Electrical vehicle system optimisation across thermal, mechanical and electrical systems models

University of Warwick

Sponsoring Partner: Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)

Collaborating Partner: Claytex Servies Ltd

Supervisor: Professor Paul Jennings

Project:

This PhD iCase award is aimed at accelerating JLR, Claytex and WMG research capability into the physical modelling of heating and cooling systems for electric and hybrid vehicles, integrated into the complete vehicle energy model.

This would include developing optimisation strategies to minimise parasitic losses of these systems.

The major challenges are developing good quality physical sub-models and validating the system models to ensure the quality and capability of these vehicle models.

We are looking for doctoral research student to work on the development of the energy efficiency models in a suitable tool such as Matlab/Simulink or Dymola, with an emphasis on low carbon vehicles. These models are to be used in determining and validating technology benefits in addition to understanding test results from prototype vehicle testing.

Entry Requirements:

A first degree (at least 2:1) in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematical subject would be preferable.

Due to funding regulations application is restricted to Home/EU students only
