Operations IT Infrastructure Manager

EUMETSAT - European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites

Darmstadt, Germany

EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate. Bringing together the resources of 30 member states, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, land and ocean that deliver vital data 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our data contribute to weather forecasts that protect lives and property across Europe and to monitoring of our changing climate. From 2015 onwards, EUMETSAT will also operate Copernicus Sentinel missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data and support services to the Copernicus marine, atmospheric composition and climate change monitoring information services and their users.

In this role, you will manage customer requests for all our Operations IT Infrastructure systems and assist the Head of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division in co-ordinating IT activities and projects. Your remit will span all infrastructure elements (buildings, network, telecommunications, computer and storage) that support the ground segment of existing and new programmes, giving you considerable challenge and visibility. You will be responsible for promoting commonalities in the delivery of Operations IT Infrastructure solutions and services and for coordinating the related design and implementation.

Alongside a degree-level qualification in a relevant technical discipline, you will bring extensive experience in engineering and maintenance of complex IT infrastructure to support high availability systems, preferably for ground systems operations for space missions. You will also bring sound experience in the co-ordination of activities, prioritising resources and managing customers across multiple projects. In addition, you will be capable of working effectively in English and have some knowledge of French, with demonstrable strengths in analysing, synthesising and presenting solutions to complex problems.

Attractive employment conditions are offered, in terms of salary, comprehensive benefits including health and social welfare provision, and extensive relocation assistance if applicable.
