JOB DESCRIPTION
The open positions is within the QoE-Net ITN Marie Curie project (qoenet-itn.eu)
We are looking for an encouraged and self-motivated early stage researcher (ESR), who will enjoy the team spirit of a dynamic interdisciplinary research group. The candidate must hold a Master/Diploma degree. Strong applicants will be considered regardless of specific experience.
ITN applicants have to ensure compliance with the Marie-Curie mobility requirement: At the time of recruitment, the applicant must not have lived for more than 12 out of the past 36 months in the country of the institution for which he or she applies. When applying for a position at the University of Cagliari, Italy with a starting date of April 1st, 2015, you must not have lived in Italy for more than one year since April 1st, 2012.
Additinally, the candidates for ESR positions are expected to have less than 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience at the selection time.
Location
The recruited ESR will conduct PhD studies at UniCA located in Cagliari, Italy, visit other network partners for secondments, and attend the training events of the network. The position is fully funded (100% employment) according to the MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS programme, which offers highly competitive and attractive salary (around 40KEuros per year) and working conditions.
Objective of the research activity
Study of the integration at the network level for traffic management and service provisioning of the quality models developed by the other partners for what concerns the following multimedia services: social TV, mobile gaming applications, and web video services. The ESR will conduct experiments within the simulation platform that will be selected by the Consortium. The results of this activity will be a technological solution on how the mentioned models can be integrated at the network level and the resulting benefits observed through experiments.
The Research will spend two periods of about 4 months at the premises of two of the QoE-Net (www.qoenet-itn.eu) participants.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicant Profile
- An excellent Master degree in media technology, communication technology, multimedia networking, electronics, computer science or similar.
- Creativity and willingness to work in an inter-disciplinary project
- Familiar with multimedia networking, network protocols and architectures, Quality of Service, and Quality of Experience.
- Ability and motivation to conduct high-quality research, including publishing the results in relevant venues
- Good analytical skills
- Good programming skills and knowledge of quality evaluation methods
- Working experience in the areas of Internet applications, multimedia networking, multimedia signal processing Quality of Experience, Quality of Service, or equivalent
- Very good communication skills (both written and oral) in English
ABOUT THE EMPLOYER
The University of Cagliari (www.unica.it) is a public and state University. It has about 36,000 enrolled students with a teaching staff of over 1,200 and 270 visiting professors. The ESR will be working at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE), which conducts advanced research in the main areas of computer science and electronic engineering with a total strength of more than 100 people.
