As part of its activities in medical imaging, Leti has developed over several years several detectors technology, in order to propose new performance in X-ray imaging for different applications like radiology and X-ray CT scanner, gamma-camera, and for non-destructive testing. The first prototypes have shown a great interest in improving the image quality and dose reduction. The objective of this thesis, in connection with an industrial partner leader in his market, is to design a scalable spectrometric X-ray detector, also called coloured medical radiography. This method should improve the contrast of the images, reduce the x-ray dose delivered to the patient, and provide access to new information. The student, electrical engineer, will design a mixt analog/digital CMOS circuit, considering a system approach, using a new photodetector technology sensitive to single visible photon: the digital silicon photomultipliers (SiPM). Finally, the student will characterize the sensor.
